Fredrik Barkenhammar, strategic communications advisor, qualified journalist and former Berlin correspondent. From 2002 to 2012, I spend ten years in the press office of the German Red Cross Headquarters, responsible for public communication around the international humanitarian work of the German Red Cross.

I was fortunate enough to collaborate with Red Cross/Red Crescent societies all around the world, communicating the humanitarian efforts and results to donors and the general public.

Since 2013 I have been an independent communications advisor with a focus on aid organizations, interest groups and humanitarian institutions. I lecture in press relations and communications at a number of universities. Journalism and journalistic modes of working form the basis of my work.

As a consultant, I offer three essential services:

  • Strategic communication plans - guarantees that you invest your money and resources in the right communication-tools.
  • Crisis communication and prevention - reduces the risk of having your organisation suffer from negative press. And gets you out of the crisis quickly.
  • Trainings and workshops - I offer two basic workshops: A: How do I get into the media? And B, for crisis communication: How do I get back out?
